7 Common Website Problems Preventing Conversions
If you want to succeed as a business in today’s digital world, you have to set up a website. Mintel’s Online Shopping US 2015 report tells us that roughly 69% of US online adults shop online at least monthly. If you do not have a website, then you miss out on all of those potential customers. Most of you already know this and have already set up your own website and good for you if you have! In this article, we want to go over some of the more advanced website problems you may be dealing with.
Are you having problems driving conversion rates from your online visitors? Having a high conversion rate for your online website is more than just throwing it on the Internet and adding a call-to-action. Here are 7 website problems that are preventing your customers from converting.
1. Wrong Audience
Are you noticing that online visitors come to your website only to quickly bounce off? It is likely that you are attracting the wrong audience. Before you make any changes to your website, determine who your target audience actually is. Consider where you are marketing. Are you advertising in the right areas for the right audience? If not, then you are wasting time and money bringing in useless traffic while your target audience might not even know about you.
2. Irrelevant Blog Topics
Having a blog is a fantastic way to bring in traffic but only if you are doing it correctly. A common website problem is that blog topics are not focused on the customer, but rather on the topic itself. Do not spend too much time coming up with blog topics, but rather focus on the type of person who will read them. What do they want to know? What problems are they facing? Focusing more on the reader persona will drive higher conversion rates by creating content that is more suited for them.
3. No Possibility of Conversion
It becomes a massive problem when your customers want to convert but they do not have the opportunity to do so. If you only have a ‘contact us’ page hidden deep within your website, your customers are not likely to find it. Instead, you want to create conversion opportunities all over your website. (However, make sure it is done tastefully. See point 5 below.) Add these opportunities in your header or footer on every page. You could also add a pop-up after someone has been on your website for 20+ seconds. Make sure your customers have a chance to convert or you will lose them.
4. Insufficient Value
Conversions are not free. Customers do not just convert for the sake of converting; they want the proper value of something in exchange. One website problem could be that your product does not have enough value to them. If that is the case, then you will not see any conversions. Try offering better value rates on your products and see if more online visitors begin to convert.
Annoying Your Customer
There are several ways to annoy your online customers and drive them away. Our last three website problems fall under annoying your customers. Change these and your conversion rates should increase.
5. Cluttered Navigation
Your website should have a clearly defined navigation menu for the user. They should be able to easily navigate to whichever page they want. If you have filled every space with product information, service information, or unnecessary photos or videos, then your visitors will get lost and likely leave. Avoid cluttering your website. Try simplifying your navigation and watch as your conversion rates increase.
6. Poor Design
Along with cluttered navigation, another website problem is having a poor design. While this may fall under a more basic website tip, it is critical for increasing customer conversion rates. You want your website design to appeal to your customers, not scare them away. The design is particularly important when considering your landing page. Making sure you have appropriate content in both length and subject are important. Also, make sure the imagery you pick to accompany the content is relevant.
7. Mobile Irresponsive
Last year, Google released an algorithm that boosted the ranks of mobile-friendly websites. In this process, those websites that are mobile irresponsive were pushed down. If your website is not mobile responsive or mobile optimized then you need to make sure that it becomes so. Your search engine ranking will be better and you will reach more potential customers.
